Car Classes
The Street and Prepared categories are divided into classes, grouping cars
with similar performance potential. Classes with a suffix of "S" are Street
and those with "P" are Prepared.
Car models are initially assigned to a base class, then those cars with
significant modifications are "progressed" into categories with higher
performance potential. Modifications are discussed under
Class Progression
Cars that are not significantly modified from stock (as normally delivered
to the United States public through authorized sales outlets of the manufacturer)
will run in their respective base classes. Note: some dealer and factory
options are not "stock." However, those options that are not considered to
improve performance are allowed in the Street and Prepared categories (i.e.,
trim packages, air-conditioning, etc.). Base classes are the starting point
in the determination of final classification of cars that have changed from
stock.
If a vehicle is not a United States specification car, the entrant must be
able to prove that the car is equivalent to the respective Street or Prepared
car to qualify for Street or Prepared classification, or equivalent to the
respective Improved category. Otherwise the car will be categorized as Modified.
DOT and/or EPA Certification alone does not make a car equivalent to a U.S.
spec car for autocross purposes.
In addition to the regular classes, all women drivers will be compete in
a women's class for purposes of overall women's fastest time of the day,
as well as, overall fastest time of the day.
All drivers with less than one year's autocross experience will compete together
in a Novice class, regardless of car class or category. They will remain
eligible for Novice until they have the equivalent of one year's autocross
experience, or have two Novice class wins. After one Novice class win the
driver will be given the option of moving up to the regular classes, or remaining
in Novice. If they choose to move out of Novice, they then cannot move back
to Novice at a later date.
All non-Porsche cars will compete in an Other category and will all compete
together regardless of car type. These cars are not eligible for any year-end
awards.
